The Nurturing Father

Mutual Images is glad to invite you to participate in a conference seeking to explore the images of the ‘nurturing father’. We welcome papers that consider social, mental and visual images of fathers and fatherhood across time and space. We especially encourage presentations that will adopt a cross-cultural perspective, focusing on how images are constructed in an international context. The general intention of this conference is directed towards focusing on the so far neglected heterogeneous dimensions of fatherhood placing special importance on images of the nurturing father.

The following different strands will comprise the below mentioned topics of interest which may include but are not limited to:

  • fatherhood: concept and symbol
  • evolution and circulation of ideas on fatherhood
  • cross-cultural images of fatherhood
  • perception of foreign images of fatherhood
  • representation of fatherhood/fathers in arts and media
  • models of fatherhood
  • roles of fathers
  • relationships between fathers and other members of society -consideration of fathers within the system of education and care

We encourage submissions with an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach. This conference is open to both postgraduates and academics at any stage of their career. In addition to individual submissions, we welcome the submission of pre-formed panel proposals.

DEADLINE

300 word abstracts should be submitted by 15th April 2015. Please note that the presentations should be of around 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of exchanges among the participants.

WRITING RECOMMENDATIONS

Abstracts should be in Word format with the following information and in this order: a) title of abstract, b) body of abstract, c) up to 10 key words, d) author(s), e) affiliation, f) email address.

Please use plain text (Garamond 11) and abstain from using footnotes and any special formatting, characters or emphasis (such as bold, italics or underline).

E-mails should be entitled: MUTUAL IMAGES FATHERHOOD 2015.

All abstracts will be anonymously reviewed by a jury of specialists. Authors will be notified via email on the results of the review by 30th of April 2015.

We acknowledge receipt and answer to all paper proposals submitted. If you do not receive a reply from us in a week you should assume we did not receive your proposal. We suggest, then, to resend it.
