Marco Pellitteri (Palermo 1974). Sociologist and specialist of communication, he is Ph.D. in Sociology and social research, title gained at the University of Trento (Italy) in 2009. He has worked for the Ceri (Sciences-Po) in Paris, the University of Trento, the Iard Institute (Milan), the Aesvi, the IsiCult institute on cultural industries (Rome). He is currently a Honorary Research Fellow at London Metropolitan University (2010-13) and Japan Foundation Research Fellow at Kobe University (2013-14), with a project on the metaphors of trauma in Japanese animation for youth and the representation of the Japanese facing domestic traumas in European newspapers. He is the author of five books on comics, animation, mass media and youths. Translator for several publishers; for Tunué publishing house he is the scientific director of the essay series “Lapilli,” “Lapilli Giganti,” “Le virgole,” and “Frizzz.” He is also the scientific director of the annual International Cartoonists’ Exhibition of Rapallo (Genoa). His doctorate thesis has won two prizes, among which the 2009 “‘John A. Lent’ Scholarship in Comics Studies,” an academic award assigned by the International Comic Arts Forum. His most recent book, The Dragon and the Dazzle: Models, Strategies, and Identities of Japanese Imagination (It. ed. Tunué 2008, Engl. edition Tunué 2010), has been published thanks to two money grants of the Japan Foundation for the translation and worldwide distribution.

Olga Antononoka

She is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Graduate School for Manga Studies in Kyoto Seika University, Kyoto (Japan). Olga holds a M.A. in Japanese Studies from the University of Latvia and a M.A. in Manga Studies from Kyoto Seika University. Her M.A. project: “Bishōnen in Boys’ Love Manga: Transcending the Phallus” addressed the performati-ve androgyny of the boys’ love protagonist. Her PhD project focuses on performance, gender and manga as a performative medium.

Maxime Danesin

 He is a PhD Student in Modern Literature, Université François-Rabelais, Tours, France, and one of the organizers of the Mutual Images Workshops. Maxime‘s field of research is the study of Intertextuality and Transculture in Literature, focusing on the cultural relationship between Japan and Europe and its impact on the literary creation process, with a particular interest in light novels and manga. His doctoral thesis is titled “The European Representations in Japanese Postmodern Paraliterature: Transculture as a part of the literary creation process”.

She is a PhD Student, University of the West of England, England and one of the organizers of the Mutual Images Workshops. Aurore situates her interest at the junction of the fields of photography, childhood and Japanese studies. Her current research focuses the construction and representation of national identity through institutional photography. Joanna Zaremba-Penk

She is a Ph.D. Candidate at the University Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń (Poland). Du-ring her studies Joanna was teaching art history of Japan at the faculty of fine arts and for Japanology Studies. Her main field of studies is iconography. In her research, deals mostly with identification and description of artists ideas and inspirations, pointing es-pecially unique interpretation of art and literature motifs in manga. Her thesis is titled “Iconography in manga”.
